Non-Eligible Sources

Registration for NES (Businesses and Non-Profits) has closed.

For businesses and non-profits that have registered with the EWSWA to continue to receive recycling collection - thank you very much. An email will be sent to you by July 15th with updates on your recycling collection services after transition (August 28, 2024).

If you are a NES (refer to definition below) and you missed the registration deadline, please email the EWSWA at ask@ewswa.org

Transition Details

Due to provincially mandated recycling changes (Ontario Regulation 391/21), the residential recycling program will no longer be administered by the EWSWA. Producers of Blue/Red Box materials will take over residential recycling collection on August 28, 2024, and are not obligated to collect recycling from a "Non-Eligible Source".

NOTE: Elementary & high schools, apartments and condos are not considered NES and did not have to register.

Non-Eligible Source (NES) Definition:

A Non-Eligible Source (NES) is an industrial or commercial property, not-for-profit organization, community building or facility (e.g., library, arenas), daycare, post-secondary institution (colleges, universities, etc.), place of worship, mixed-use property (residential apartment combined with business, etc.), campground and trailer park without permanent or seasonal households, or a commercial farm that is currently receiving blue box recycling collection services from the EWSWA.

Non-Eligible Source Fact Sheet

The NES Fact Sheet is in a pdf format, if you require an alternative format, please contact the EWSWA at ask@ewswa.org.
